AW15 // TREND REPORT

Autumn is swiftly approaching and accompanying it is the onset of a whole new set of trends. I’m not typically one to comply to the entirety of current trends for a variety of different reasons. But it typically boils down to the fact that they’re either inaccessible or they aren’t my style. But this upcoming season is a completely different story. So before I get into one of my rambley states, here are some of my favorite trends for the upcoming season.

DUSTER COATS
You may have seen a duster or two last year on a few trend setting individuals, but this year duster coats made their official appearance in many shows. Some of my favorites from the AW15 RTW runway came from Maison Margiela, The Row, and Calvin Klein.

FUR/SHEARLING
If you thought fur was a big trend last year, then you haven’t see this years’ runways. Fur was a material in almost every collection (that I saw). So break out your fur gilets and congratulate yourself yourself because you, my friend, are a trendsetter. From full on fur jackets to accents of fur, brands like Tibi, Rodarte, and Jason Wu had some amazing pieces that I will for sure be using for inspiration. But lets keep it faux people.

INTERIOR PRINT/PATCHWORK
Channel your inner Harry Styles this autumn with patchwork, oriental, interior, and aztec prints. The type of prints and patterns that you would find while sifting through old furniture in a vintage shop were very popular on the AW15 runway this year. Erdem, Isabel Marant, and Tom Ford killed these trends so hard that it almost makes me want to rip up some of my old clothes (and maybe some old couches?) and get to sewing.

PATENT LEATHER
Patent leather is part of the ever trendy throwback flair that designers have been incorporating into their design for years. This year designers like Maison Margiela and Rodarte did it in a very sleek and modern way that doesn’t make it seem quite as ‘out there’ as it seemed to be back in the day.

RIBBED KNIT
Now this is one of those trends that has already engulfed my wardrobe. I absolutely love ribbed knits. Not quite sure why, but I do. Some of my favorite pieces from this trend came from Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, and Calvin Klein. Their designs make me want to go out and buy even more ribbed knit items. No such thing as too many knits right?

VELVET
Another blast from the past this upcoming season is the velvet trend. But that does NOT mean you get to start wearing your old velour track pants from ’03 #sorrynotsorry. Emilio Pucci, Tom Ford, and Alexander Wang (the bae) did an amazing job at bringing this old trend back but in a more modern and tasteful way.

SUITS
Pencil skirts aren’t the only option for a professional look anymore. Pant suits are a huge trend for the upcoming autumn season. And thanks to designers like Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton, business style never looked so good.

SILHOUETTE

As for silhouettes on the runway, I saw a lot of large/oversized silhouettes. Whether it be a chunky sweater, a large oversized jacket, or a long billowy dress. Leave the form fitting outfits for the warmer months and give yourself some room to layer up.

So there you have it, my first official trend report! I am seriously looking forward to being able to wear trends and feel comfortable while doing it. You also won’t have to look very far to acquire these pieces because they already have a place in fast fashion and in many people’s wardrobes. But please remember that you should never follow trends just for the sake of fitting in. Consider trends more of an idea or inspiration, not requirements. Always wear whatever the hell you want to. Fuck trends, if you like it wear it, if you don’t then don’t. Never let what other people’s sense of fashion or what other people think is “in” dictate what you wear. With that reminder I bid you all adieu. And if you guys take anything away from this post, please make sure it’s what I said above. Until next time my lovelies.
