COLLEGE PREP TIMELINE

So if you couldn't tell by the title of this post, this is the first post in my College Series. This is just a quick timeline of things you should do leading up to college, starting with the beginning of high school and ending with the summer right before your freshman year. Remember that this is not, by far, all that you have to do. Everyone's experiences are different and these are just some of the major and more universal things that need to be done.

BEGINNING OF HIGH SCHOOL
Start building a good high school profile - grades, extracurriculars, etc.
Take classes that help you figure out what you like to do and what could be a possible career path.
Start taking college prep classes aka AP classes, courses through local college, etc.

JUNIOR YEAR
Start looking at colleges and taking tours of campuses.
Narrow down possible career paths (and take classes accordingly).
Take respective college entry exams - ACT, SAT, etc.
 APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!

BEGINNING / MIDDLE OF SENIOR YEAR
Start filling out the CommonApp/applications for colleges that don't accept the CommonApp.
     - Be conscious of deadlines. Early action and early decision apps are usually due around this time
while regular decision applications are typically due later on in the year.
Start narrowing down college selections and make sure to tour each of your top choices.
Attend a financial aid meeting (example: how to fill out the FAFSA)
 APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!

MIDDLE / END SENIOR YEAR
Fill out FAFSA - remember first come, first serve so don't procrastinate!
Finalize college decision and send final transcripts and any other necessary documents.
Pay enrollment deposit and any other fees/deposits.
Keep up on grades, fulfill graduation requirements, and graduate!
 APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!

AFTER GRADUATION
 Attend your college's orientation session.
 Register for classes.
 Complete any necessary enrollment papers.
 KEEP APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!

I hope this helps give you some direction or sense of organization. I know I could have used a little bit more of both of those things on my journey to college. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some scholarships to apply for ;)

All the love.
